There was a lot to like about Celtic’s 3-0 win over Dundee in the Scottish Premiership yesterday afternoon.
For one, Brendan Rodgers‘ side was absolutely dominant as they brushed Tony Docherty’s team away to restore a five-point lead at the top of the table.
Secondly, Luis Palma put in a sterling performance for the Hoops as he continues to impress this season adding another assist to his tally.
But it was 24-year-old defender, Stephen Welsh, that really impressed the Celtic boss as he came on as a 55th-minute substitute to replace Cameron Carter-Vickers, who was taken off as a precaution.
Rodgers said [BBC], “He [Cameron Carter-Vickers] felt his hamstring. Thankfully, it looks like it hasn’t gone. It’s just tight.
“If he feels anything, it’s better letting us know. Stephen [Welsh] came on and was very calm and excellent. We’ll assess him before Saturday.”
This isn’t the first time this season Welsh has been excellent for Celtic. Against Feyenoord, the former Scotland u21 international put in a defensive masterclass in the 2-1 Champions League win.
Injured at the beginning of the season, Welsh is now proving to be a very effective and reliable squad player for Celtic as his performance yesterday proved.
For the 35 minutes he was on the park, Welsh had a 100% passing accuracy finding his Celtic teammates on 29 out of 29 occasions.
Welsh also made one clearance, one interception, completed two ball recoveries and two defensive actions in the win over Dundee.
He also managed to create one chance and had one shot at goal in the short time he was on the pitch. [Fotmob]

If Welsh needs to be called upon on Saturday for the game against Rangers, the 24-year-old will be hoping that he can help reverse a horrible trend he has picked up whenever he plays the Ibrox club.
In six appearances against Rangers, Welsh has never been on the winning side, losing five and drawing once. [Transfermarkt]
With the big game less than four days away, Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that Carter-Vickers will be fully fit and ready to go.
