ESPN pundit says Martin Odegaard will not be happy if Arsenal sign Joao Felix

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid, but Steve Nicol claims Martin Odegaard will not be too happy if he joins the club.

The Gunners were dealt a huge blow when Gabriel Jesus suffered an injury at the World Cup. The Brazilian will now reportedly miss about three months of football as a result, and Arsenal are being urged to sign a replacement.

Felix is one of many names linked with a move to the Emirates.

ESPN pundit says Martin Odegaard will not be happy if Arsenal sign Joao Felix

Corriere dello Sport revealed earlier this week that Arsenal are in talks with Felix’s agent to discuss a potential move in the upcoming January transfer window.

On ESPN FC, a fan told Steve Nicol and Craig Burley that the Portugal international would be a dream signing for the Gunners because of his ability to switch positions in attack. It was also suggested that Felix could play behind Jesus – in Odegaard’s position.

Burley felt it could work, but Nicol wasn’t having it at all. He claimed that Odegaard would be upset if Arsenal signed Felix next month.

He said: “I don’t think Odegaard will be too happy with it if he appeared.

“No, it doesn’t seem the right fit. I like what they’ve got going now. It’s unfortunate Jesus is injured.

“But the whole thing they’ve got going now seems right – Joao Felix coming in could blow that up a little bit.”

Well, we don’t know if Arsenal will go and sign Felix in January, but we’re pretty sure he will not replace Odegaard in the number 10 role if he joins the club.

The Norwegian is Arsenal’s captain and one of the most important players. He has been magnificent since the start of the season, and almost all the good things the Gunners do in attack go through him.

Felix, who’s still only 23, is a quality player. He still has the talent to really explode at a club that suits him, and on paper, it makes sense for Arsenal to bring him in to provide cover for the injured Jesus.

However, 90min revealed recently that Atleti want at least £100 million to let him go. We just can’t see Arsenal spending that kind of money on Felix in January.
