Report: Arsenal now in talks with agent of 'very special' £240k-a-week player

Arsenal are among the clubs who are in talks with Jorge Mendes about the potential signing of Joao Felix during the January transfer window.

Felix has been linked with a move to the Gunners in the last few weeks. He has slipped down the pecking order somewhat with Atletico and Mendes is keen to find his client a move in January.

A number of clubs are thought to be keen on signing Felix. However, a report from Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claims that Arsenal are among the clubs be actively ‘in talks’ to sign the forward.

A host of other teams like Bayern Munich and PSG are also thought to be keen. However, Arsenal’s position at the top of the Premier League could tempt Felix to England. Further, the idea of him being the main forward in Gabriel Jesus’ absence will also appeal.

Arsenal’s interest in Felix had been downplayed somewhat this weekend. Journalist Ryan Taylor telling GiveMeSport that any move for Felix is unlikely simply due to the fee involved. Of course, a short-term loan could be an option for the Gunners as well.

TBR’s View: Arsenal should keep in the mix to sign Felix

Despite it looking unlikely at the moment, there is no reason for Arsenal to move away from this completely.

Felix – dubbed ‘very special‘ by Alvaro Morata – is a quality operator and of all the players potentially available on the market right now, he is one who has a lot to bring to the table.

The injury to Gabriel Jesus has effectively forced Arsenal’s hand when it comes to January. It’s imperative they do something to cover for his absence. Whether or not the action they take is pushing to sign Felix, remains to be seen.

Of course, if Arsenal do sign the Portuguese star, it’s a huge boost for Mikel Arteta’s title plans.
