Kevin Campbell would love Arsenal to sign Joao Felix amid reports

Kevin Campbell has told The Highbury Squad that Joao Felix would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal, particularly if the Gunners could sign the Atletico Madrid star on an initial loan deal.

Joao Felix will be one player to keep an eye on during the January transfer window. He has struggled for Atletico. But he remains one of the most exciting young players in Europe right now.

And it seems that he could end up at Arsenal. Sport reports that the Gunners lead the way amongst a raft of Premier League sides who want the Portuguese.

Of course, he would not come cheap for any side. 90min reports that Atletico would like a deal worth at least £100 million. However, a loan move may become a possibility given that his asking price would take a number of admirers out of the race.

Certainly, Campbell will be delighted to hear that Atletico could be open to a loan deal for Felix. When asked about the prospect of Arsenal signing the 23-year-old, the former Gunners star suggested that he would have the potential to be an outstanding addition.

“If we could sort out a try before you buy, what an opportunity that would give us. Real opportunity,” he told The Highbury Squad.

“He wants out of Atletico. Him and the manager Simeone do not see eye to eye. Their relationship has broken down. Been at the World Cup. He’s had a decent World Cup.

“Now, maybe you can dangle that carrot at him to come to Arsenal. He’s somebody I’m sure Mikel Arteta rates. But the key is, if you can try before you buy, what an addition to our squad he’d be.”

Some may be tempted to draw some parallels between Joao Felix and Martin Odegaard.

It is easy to forget now but it did appear that it was something of a roll of the dice for the Gunners to even take Odegaard on loan.

He had shown glimpses while on the books of a club in the Spanish capital. But it did appear that his development was in danger of stagnating when so much was expected of him.

His move to Arsenal however, has relaunched his career. And perhaps the Gunners may be looking to repeat the trick with Felix in January.
