Emmanuel Petit has shared why he thinks Mikel Arteta needs to replace Gabriel Jesus at Arsenal.

The 53-year-old made the comments when speaking to German news outlet Wett Freunde.

So, what did Emmanuel Petit say about Arsenal No.9 Gabriel Jesus? Let’s take a look…

Emmanuel Petit feels Arsenal should replace Gabriel Jesus

Well, the Frenchman claimed that Arsenal need to sign another striker to light a fire in the Brazil international and give him “wings” to improve.

When asked if Arteta and Edu should replace the South American, Petit said: “Gabriel Jesus always gives his all, but he lacks the coolness in front of the opposing goal. Maybe a well known newcomer would somehow give him wings.”

Arsenal seem to agree with Petit’s views on the £45m forward.

There have been several reports stating that Arsenal want to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford this summer, with the Mirror even claiming that the Gunners lead the race for the England international’s signature.

A story from Calcio Napoli 24 also mentioned that an enquiry has been made over Victor Osimhen.

Arsenal can cope without a striker thanks to Mikel Arteta

Yes, Arsenal could probably find an upgrade on Jesus.

However – if the Gunners fail to do just that this summer – it is not a major problem with a tactician like Arteta at the helm.

Many within the media suggested that Arsenal needed a striker after a dismal run of form throughout December, which included back-to-back defeats against West Ham and Fulham.

However, Arteta found a solution, utilising Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard effectively down the centre to ensure Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli found themselves in goalscoring areas more frequently.

Arsenal have since scored 31 goals in just seven Premier League appearances throughout 2024.

Therefore – while a new striker wouldn’t go amiss – it would not be a disaster if Arsenal failed to sign one, not with Arteta in charge.
