Arsenal now lead the race to sign Brentford No.17 Ivan Toney – as Manchester United set a £70m limit.

That is according to the Mirror.

So, what is the situation involving Arsenal and Ivan Toney as Manchester United set a limit? Let’s take a look…

Arsenal lead Ivan Toney race

Well – according to the Mirror – Arsenal are currently front of the queue to sign the England international.

Brentford want £100m for Toney – who Thomas Frank admitted is likely to be sold this summer – although Manchester United are unwilling to spend more than £70m.

The Mirror add that Chelsea also stand alongside Arsenal at the front of the queue – although Financial Fair Play restrictions may restrict the Blues in this particular transfer battle after some chaotic spending under Todd Boehly.

Manchester United are believed to be wary of entering a bidding war with Arsenal and Chelsea – so are prepared to pursue alternative options if Brentford reject a sum of £70m.

The Mirror also state that Toney wants to leave Brentford this summer – so it appears to be case of where the striker will end up, rather than if he will depart.

Impressively, the man from Northampton has scored two goals in two Premier League appearances since returning from his ban.

Manchester United should push Arsenal all the way

The Mirror add that Manchester United need to sell players before they can spend heavily this summer, so that must be taken into account.

However, if the Red Devils can offload some deadwood, those on the recruitment team should go all out to sign Toney – he is a difference maker in every sense of the term.

Of course, other areas need bolstering too, such as the centre-back department as Jonny Evans continues to be relied upon.

Having said that, a clinical player like Toney can win games out of nothing – even when a side isn’t performing particularly well – so he should be prioritised above all else.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as England’s elite battle to sign the Brentford talisman.
