Arsenal are back on track after recording two successive wins – although there was a nightmarish run of form throughout December.
Now – thanks to the Independent – we have been given some insight regarding what those at the Emirates Stadium think was behind that awful streak of results.
So, what do those inside Arsenal believe? Let’s take a look…
What those inside Arsenal think happened in December
Well – according to the Independent – people within Arsenal believe there was simply a mental fatigue occurring throughout December after a gruesome fixture list.
The Gunners played eight games in December – which equates to a match every 3.9 days – and could only win three of these outings.
Arsenal suffered defeats to Aston Villa, West Ham and Fulham – while also drawing to Liverpool and PSV Eindhoven.
However, the Independent add that Arsenal believe the January break has revitalised the squad and injected a new sense of freshness into the players.

That has been evident in the last two outings – to say the least.
Arsenal appeared to be full of energy as Crystal Palace were hammered 5-0 on January 20th, before a grittier 2-1 win occurred away to Nottingham Forest last time out.
Both matches showed a freshness of different types – the win over Crystal Palace coming thanks to plenty of athleticism on the counter attack, whereas the victory at the City Ground showed mental fortitude and a willingness to keep pushing.
Arsenal must learn from last season
In our view, Arsenal became far too emotionally invested in the Premier League title last season, and it ultimately cost the Gunners.
This term, Liverpool are also in the mix along with Manchester City, so Arsenal would be wise to keep a low profile and just focus on what they can control.

Both the Reds and the Citizens are far more experienced when it comes to title charges, with two greats at the helm in Jürgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.
Therefore, Arsenal must find a way to stay removed from the situation mentally – if that can be achieved, Arteta is talented enough to ensure his side allow football to do the talking.
