Edu now wants to sign Brazilian defender for Arsenal who plays just like Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven

Arsenal have now been named among the clubs interested in signing Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo, a player who has been likened to Micky van de Ven.

The Gunners are expected to be active in the January transfer window. They are currently on top of the table, but additions to their squad, especially at the back, are a necessity. Beraldo would be a very interesting option for Arsenal.

If Arsenal can keep everyone fit, they have a fantastic chance of winning the Premier League title, but injuries have affected them this season.

Jurrien Timber damaged his ACL in the first game of the campaign, while Thomas Partey has missed a large part of the season as well. Takehiro Tomiyasu is currently injured too.

“We are very short at the back,” said Mikel Arteta last week in his press conference after the draw against PSV Eindhoven. That suggests he will be on the market for a new defender.

Now, TuttoJuve have revealed that along with Juventus and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, Arsenal are also interested in the talented 20-year-old defender.

Gunners sporting director Edu Gaspar has a fantastic network in Brazil and his relationship with clubs there often gives Arsenal an edge in transfer negotiations.

Sao Paulo have tied Beraldo down to a contract until the end of 2028.

Beraldo plays like Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven

If it wasn’t for his injury, Tottenham star Micky van de Ven would be in the conversation of signing of the season right now.

The Dutchman joined Spurs from Wolfsburg in the summer, and he hit the ground running. He was one of the best defenders in the Premier League in the first 10 games of the season, and it’s such a shame for Tottenham that he got injured.

Graeme Bailey claimed on Talking Transfers two months ago, when Liverpool were linked with a move to sign Beraldo, that the young defender plays similarly to Van de Ven.

He said: “Outstanding young player, under-20 international, left-sided as well. We know they had an interest in Micky van de Ven. And someone said Lucas Beraldo is similar to him.

“He’s a young player, left-sider, talented.”
