Only a week ago, 90min revealed that Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is interested in signing his compatriot Lorenzo Insigne.

The Euro 2020 champion has entered the final six months of his contract and he has been reluctant to extend his deal for a while now. Napoli have been desperate to keep him, but it looks like they’ve lost.

Insigne, one of the best players in Serie A over the better part of the last decade, will leave Naples at the end of this season. He will move on as a free agent in the summer, but will he join Tottenham?

The answer, unfortunately for Spurs fans, is a big no! He’s off to North America.

Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham-linked Lorenzo Insigne will join Toronto FC

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has been reporting about Insigne’s contract situation for a few months now.

There was initially some hope for Napoli fans to see their star attacker stay, but as we headed to the end of the year, everyone in Naples conceded that Insigne will move on.

A few Tottenham fans fancied the Italian in North London, but that will not happen now. Romano has revealed that a deal between Insigne and Toronto FC has been agreed and he will move to Canada as a free agent in the summer.

Who should Spurs sign now?

Insigne never really seemed a realistic option for Spurs considering that he’s 30 already and would cost a lot in wages. However, with two Italians – Conte and Paratici – at the helm, there was a small chance.

Now that there’s zero chance, Spurs should look at other wide options. They have been linked with a number of players over recent weeks, but Jamie O’Hara has urged them to go for Wolves star Adama Traore.

We have to say, O’Hara is spot on! Traore would be an excellent addition and if he’s available, Paratici should strike a deal to get him before the window shuts this month.
