Jobe Bellingham has been linked with Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur, and Spurs will be able to follow the Sunderland midfielder against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United live on TV on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the FA Cup tie at the Stadium of Light, former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has given his verdict on Bellingham and believes that the Sunderland player has a great chance to showcase his quality to the wider footballing audience.
So, what has David Seaman said about Tottenham Hotspur target Jobe Bellingham? Let’s take a look.
Praise for Tottenham Hotspur target Jobe Bellingham
Well, Sunderland will take on Newcastle United at the Stadium of Light in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon.
The match is live on ITV1 and will kick off at 12: 45 pm UK time. It is the first Tyne-Wear derby since March 2016.
Jobe Bellingham will start the match for Sunderland. The 18-year-old is one of the best midfielders in the lower leagues in England and has been superb for the Black Cats so far this season.
Bellingham has made 24 starts and one substitute appearance in the Championship for Sunderland. He has scored four goals and given one assist in those matches.
Spurs have been linked with the teenager for a while now. Football London reported in January 2023 that Tottenham had extensively scouted him last season when he was at Birmingham City.

Bellingham moved to Sunderland in the summer of 2023, and Football Insider reported in November 2023 that Spurs “are keeping close tabs” on him. Newcastle United are also interested.
Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has been impressed with the teenager and believes that he could showcase his quality to a wider audience today.
Seaman said about Bellingham on the Seaman Says podcast: “Live on television, it’s a great chance. There is that attraction because of his rather better known brother but it’s a great chance and an opportunity for him.
“I have seen little bits of him and he looks a quality player. We are going to be seeing quite a bit of him later on but what a chance for him.”
My View: Tottenham Hotspur should continue to keep tabs on Jobe Bellingham
In my opinion, Tottenham Hotspur should follow Jobe Bellingham in action for Sunderland against Newcastle United in the FA Cup and should continue to monitor him this season.
Sunderland and Newcastle are massive rivals, and it will be interesting to see how Bellingham does.
Bellingham is only 18 now, so we should not put too much pressure on the teenager to perform well against Newcastle.
However, if he does well, then it will show his mentality and mettle. His elder brother Jude Bellingham is only 20 now, but he is playing like a veteran for arguably the biggest club in the world, Real Madrid. Jobe Bellingham could follow a similar trajectory.
Meanwhile, Seaman has picked Tottenham Hotspur star Guglielmo Vicario as one of the best goalkeepers of the season so far.
Seaman said on the Seaman Says podcast: “I have looked at it and narrowed it down to two. Vicario and Martinez, who is having a great season.
“I was looking at it thinking they do a lot of stuff I don’t like. Camera saves with Vicario and Martinez’s arrogance and unsporting-like behaviour but they are still really, really good goalies.
“I don’t know why but for what he’s achieved Martinez is doing it. I know you might think that is a shock but there are certain bits about Vicario which I don’t like. I will leave it at that!”
