David Seaman now doesn't want Cristiano Ronaldo at Arsenal

David Seaman has told his Seaman Says podcast that he has changed his mind on the idea of Arsenal signing Cristiano Ronaldo, insisting that he doesn’t want him at the Emirates.

Ronaldo’s future, of course, has been a key talking point for several weeks. He is now a free agent after leaving Manchester United. And there has plenty of speculation surrounding where he may end up next.

The Portuguese is a hugely divisive figure. Obviously, he is one of the greatest players the world has ever seen. But many understood why Erik ten Hag looked to move him towards the periphery of the squad before his departure.

Nevertheless, Seaman told Piers Morgan Uncensored last month that he would bring Ronaldo to Arsenal as Mikel Arteta’s men look to fight for the title in the Premier League.

And there have been links with the Gunners. Rudy Galetti reported that Arsenal were interested in bringing the 37-year-old to the Emirates.

Two weeks on from his initial comments however, it appears that Seaman has had a complete change of heart. Following Portugal’s 6-1 win over Switzerland on Tuesday, Seaman suggested that it would be a bad idea to look to hand the forward a deal.

“There’s even been talk about Ronaldo. I know I went on the Piers Morgan show and I said yeah I’d have him. Don’t think I would now if I’m honest,” he told Seaman Says.

“I don’t know what’s happening with his attitude. I see him come off for Portugal [against South Korea] and he starts swearing, or whatever he did to the manager, and stuff like that, and I’m thinking hang on a minute, this is Ronaldo. You’re the best player in the world, you don’t really need to be acting like this.

“That’s why I don’t want to see him at Arsenal,” he added, when told about Ronaldo not celebrating Portugal’s win with the team last night. “The harmony at the club and togetherness is brilliant.”

Seaman’s comments are particularly significant because, of course, Arsenal have been dealt a major blow since he initially backed the idea of signing Ronaldo.

Gabriel Jesus is facing several months on the sidelines after undergoing surgery. So the club’s need for a new striker has increased significantly.

The fact that Seaman does not want that to be Ronaldo says everything.

And in truth, Arsenal are not the only side who really should stay well away from the forward.
