Report: Arsenal now want to sign 'world-class' striker who left Gabriel Martinelli in shock last year
Arsenal are being linked with a surprise move for Cristiano Ronaldo, amid rumours Gabriel Jesus could be injured for a few weeks.
Rumours are circling that Jesus may be out for the foreseeable future after picking up an injury at the World Cup. It remains to be seen just how long Jesus will be missing for, with Arsenal facing an anxious wait.
Of course, thoughts have turned to who Arsenal might sign if Jesus is indeed out. And according to Rudy Galetti, the name of Cristiano Ronaldo is one that shouldn’t be ignored.
Despite reports suggesting Ronaldo has agreed a mega money move to the Middle East, Galetti writes how Arsenal could still try to convince him to stay in England. The world superstar recently left Manchester United after falling out with Erik ten Hag.
For Arsenal, the idea of landing Ronaldo will surely come down to his goals. Everything else that has happened in the last few months seems to go against the Gunners’ whole ethos under Mikel Arteta.
The Gunners have shown they’re willing to spend recently. However, it remains to be seen if they would be willing to muster the mega wages a player like Ronaldo would command.
Coincidentally, current Arsenal star Gabi Martinelli admitted he couldn’t believe he’d got to play on the same pitch as Ronaldo. Certainly, it would be interesting to see how Martinelli reacted to Ronaldo arriving at London Colney!
TBR’s View: Cristiano Ronaldo to Arsenal makes no sense
Cristiano Ronaldo to Arsenal just doesn’t seem to be what Mikel Arteta would do. Given he upset the apple cart at Manchester United, you’d have to question why Arteta would risk that disruption at Arsenal.
Right now, Arsenal need to keep that spirit. Adding someone like Ronaldo would be a huge risk, even though he is essentially a guarantee of goals.
A move to another league abroad on huge money is the more likely scenario for Ronaldo.
