Tottenham have been linked with so many strikers since Harry Kane’s departure, and one player whose name keeps cropping up is Santiago Gimenez.

The Feyenoord hitman has been making waves over in the Netherlands over the past 18 months or so, and Spurs have taken a liking to the £43m man.

However, according to David Ornstein, speaking on the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast, Feyenoord really don’t want to sell the Mexican this month.

Indeed, Ornstein says that he recently had a call about Gimenez, and it was made abundantly clear to him that Feyenoord do not want to sell the player.

Feyenoord don’t want to sell Gimenez

Ornstein shared what he knows about the striker.

“I really like what I’ve seen of him, but there is that Dutch caution. Without knowing we were going to speak about this, I was on a call about him today, it was made very clear to me how desperately Feyenoord need to keep him this season, they’re in Europe, they could get into the Champions League and that would be worth more than a sale price, if it gets up into the 40s or more then that situation could change, but I don’t think right now they’re entertaining any interest,” Ornstein said.

One for the summer

Feyenoord don’t want to let Gimenez go this month, but they may be powerless to stop this move by the time the summer rolls around.

Indeed, Gimenez has more than earned his opportunity to go and play at the very top level, and a summer move feels inevitable.

Tottenham could well be in that race by the time the summer rolls around. After all, it has been said that Spurs will try to sign their Harry Kane replacement at the end of the season.

This is certainly a situation to keep a close eye on.
