‘It’s quite unrealistic’: David Ornstein offers the transfer update all Leeds fans will want to hear

Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, is being linked with a move away from the club this summer, as Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Manchester United all circle.

Phillips, who is back from injury to help Leeds in the run-in to the Premier League season, has been integral for both club and country in recent seasons. However, he is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract at Elland Road, sparking fears he could be on the move.

Manchester United are thought to be super keen on signing Phillips for their new manager. However, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, a move for Phillips to United is as extremely unlikely at the moment.

“Manchester United may like to sign him, but I think it’s very unrealistic. One, because Leeds are very determined to tie him down to a new contract. Of course, that’s up to him if he wants to sign whatever is put in front of him,” Ornstein said on Sky Sports.

“He’s a local boy of course, and it’s for that reason that I doubt Manchester United. I think he may have intimated in the past it is a move he would not make. When you think there’s going to be other interest. I don’t think Kalvin Phillips and Manchester United is going to work.”

TBR’s View: Phillips To Manchester United Would Sting Leeds Fans

This would be the ultimate nightmare for Leeds fans, wouldn’t it? The local hero who has been so so crucial for them, crossing The Pennines and joining forces with Manchester United. It would just sting massively.

But Ornstein is right here. Phillips has ties to Leeds and it’s not like Man United are the force they once were either.

Obviously, he could leave and Ornstein’s mention of a City or other clubs coming in could happen. However, Phillips to Man U just seems a non-starter. And Leeds fans will be delighted.
