Newcastle United all but secured their top flight status with a win over Wolves last night and now could be ready to spend big money to bring Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips, to the Northeast.

Phillips is a man in-demand this summer and a host of clubs, including Aston Villa and Manchester United, have already made their feelings known when it comes to the Leeds star. However, according to iNews, it is Newcastle who still hold a big interest and they are ready to go big to sign Phillips.

INews states how Newcastle are still firmly involved in the interested parties when it comes to Phillips, despite Villa being the team to have pushed the furthest in terms of putting a bid together. Phillips is expected to change agents this summer, and there is still uncertainty over his future at Elland Road.

Branded as a ‘wonderful’ player by David James, Phillips’ injury troubles this season have coincided with Leeds having a dip in form. The midfielder starred in the Euros for England, too, and is said to be worth around £55m to the Whites.

With fellow Leeds star Raphinha also a wanted man this summer, it’s set to be a big summer for Jesse Marsch and the Leeds board.

TBR’s View: Newcastle Could Really Suit Kalvin Phillips

With the project on offer and the potential that could come with a move like this, you have to say it would at least intrigue Phillips.

Newcastle will now be a team on the rise. New players will keep coming in and the fans are buying into what’s going on at St James’ Park. Bruno Guimaraes showed how good he is last night and Phillips alongside him would be quite the duo.

Of course, Leeds have a strong position and can demand big money. But the longer it goes without a new deal for Phillips, the more nervous Leeds fans will become.
