Arsenal legend David O’Leary has had his say on the Gunners’ summer business, including the signings of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz.

Mikel Arteta got his wish and strengthened in key areas. The Gunners have seen success too, being unbeaten so far and well in the title race despite a few injuries.

Of course, one of the most impactful signings has been that of Declan Rice. The England midfielder has been superb in midfield, with Thomas Partey’s absence making Rice even more important.

And speaking on Rice this morning, former Gunners David O’Leary was full of praise for the midfielder.

David O’Leary lauds Declan Rice’s impact at Arsenal

Speaking on TalkSPORT this morning with Alan Brazil, O’Leary covered a number of topics on Arsenal.

And when it came to the new signings, O’Leary was full of praise for £100m man Rice.

“Rice has been a revelation. We always knew he was going to be a top class player. He was going to come in as what we needed. I think Timber unfortunately has got injured, I think he will be a really really good player,” O’Leary said.

O’Leary also spoke of his surprise at Arsenal not signing a new striker. As we know, the Gunners splashed out £65m on Kai Havertz in a move that, so far, has not worked out.

Rice a class act and getting better

Paying £100m+ for a new player is always going to bring pressure for both player and manager but Declan Rice has taken brilliantly to things at Arsenal.

The England man is now very much a world class midfield player and he’s getting the chance to showcase that ability at the very top of the game now.

Arsenal will love the fact they got Rice ahead of others this summer. Even at the price they paid, it’s already looking a solid investment.

Put it this way, if Arsenal do win something this year, then you can bet your bottom dollar that Rice will have played in nearly every game.
