Danny Murphy predicts if Gareth Southgate will pick Rangers ace over Arsenal man for Euro 2024

Jack Butland has reinvigorated his career at Rangers with the Ibrox star impressing this season since his move last summer – and Danny Murphy predicts if he will be in England’s Euro 2024 squad.

Nine-time England man Butland, 31, had just ended a loan at Manchester United from Crystal Palace when Rangers came calling. Butland failed to play a single match for United during the temporary spell.

But he has turned things around at Rangers. Already, he has clocked up 46 appearances for Philippe Clement’s side – keeping a huge 23 clean sheets and conceding only 35 goals. He is back to his best.

His form has been so good – helping Rangers impress in the Europa League, and sit top of the Scottish Premiership – that calls have been made for an England return. Possibly, being included at Euro 2024.

If he is to be included, it would likely be for Aaron Ramsdale – with the Arsenal goalkeeper falling out of the starting XI. But Butland is on England’s radar. Murphy says he expects Butland will be overlooked.

“He’ll take Ramsdale [over Butland]. In fact, I’d bet on it – I’d bank on it. He [Southgate] likes Ramsdale, he’s better than Pickford and Johnstone with his feet. I think Ramsdale will go,” Murphy told TalkSPORT.

Rangers man Jack Butland to be overlooked by Gareth Southgate

It would be harsh on Butland to be overlooked, given his form. But, Rangers do not play in the Premier League and that bares weight. But to pick him over Ramsdale, would also be harsh on the Arsenal man.

He didn’t deserve to be dropped for David Raya this season, with Chris Sutton even claiming that he will feel betrayed by Mikel Arteta. He needs a move – but it is not as if his form has taken a down turn.
