Aaron Ramsdale didn’t do himself any favours against Brentford on Saturday.
Indeed, after a long period on the bench, this was Ramsdale’s chance to show why he should be Arsenal’s number one, but, during the game, he made a big blunder that almost cost Arsenal two points.
Luckily, Arsenal managed to recover to win, but the goalkeeper still looked shaky it must be said.
Speaking on BBC 606, Chris Sutton has been discussing the goalkeeping situation at Arsenal, and, for a change, he’s shown a lot of sympathy towards the goalkeeper.
Indeed, Sutton says that Ramsdale may feel very let down by his manager this term, noting that Mikel Arteta’s claim that he would rotate his goalkeepers has proven to be false.

Mikel Arteta has let Aaron Ramsdale down
Sutton spoke about the £50m man.
“From Ramsdale’s perspective, it’s difficult for him, because when Raya came in Arteta spoke about rotating the goalkeepers. We all had our opinions on who’s the better goalkeeper. But I feel like Ramsdale may feel let down by Mikel Arteta and his words because everyone expected it to be a couple of games each, didn’t they?” Sutton said.
Sold a dream
As much as we hate to use this phrase for someone as respectable as Arteta, he has lied to Ramsdale here.
Arteta did say at the start of the season that he would rotate his goalkeepers or even substitute them within games, but, in reality, Ramsdale has simply been replaced as Arsenal’s number one and he’s been left to rot on the bench.
Ramsdale has every right to be annoyed with this decision. After all, he was fantastic last season and he was told that he would get chances to play.
The goalkeeper hasn’t necessarily been treated fairly, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if he left this summer.
