Jack Butland – who admitted to rejecting Manchester United in 2023 – could soon receive a call up to the England squad.
It was Gareth Southgate who teased the possibility of the Rangers No.1 returning to the Three Lions.
So, what is the latest on Jack Butland after he rejected Manchester United in 2023? Let’s take a look…
Butland could receive England call up
Well, the 30-year-old admitted to turning down an offer from Manchester United last summer in favour of joining Rangers.
It was even said that Manchester United were willing to double the Bristolian’s wages.
Butland was quoted by Football Scotland as saying: “It wasn’t difficult. Manchester United was a great opportunity to join a club I supported as a kid and learn from the best but you quickly get to a point where you realise just how much you miss playing yourself and how much you miss the winning feeling.”
Now – after taking the bold decision to reject Manchester United for Rangers – the glovesman could be in line to make his first appearance for England since 2018.

The Daily Mail quote Southgate as saying: “It is an issue for us and the situation is up in the air.
“We have to make sure we’re watching everybody. Jack is included in that because he’s playing at a big club and is an experienced goalkeeper. It’s not an ideal situation with Aaron not playing, Sam at the moment not playing and Nick injured. We’ll have to see how that plays out.”
Butland – who boasts nine caps for England – has been superb for Rangers so far this season, keeping 19 clean sheets in 38 appearances, while conceding just 29 goals.
Butland would have been a solid signing by Manchester United on a free transfer
It is a shame that Butland rejected the Red Devils, as he would have provided strong competition to Andre Onana this season – and possibly motivated the Cameroon international to deliver better performances.

Ultimately, Erik ten Hag opted to sign Altay Bayindir in a £4.2m deal from Fenerbahce, with the Turkey international conceding twice to Newport County in his one and only appearance so far.
Hopefully, Onana begins to deliver some stronger displays in between the sticks, or more people will start to engage in this debate about Butland if he receives an England call up.
