After enduring another injury disrupted campaign last term, Gabriel Jesus has looked incredibly sharp during Arsenal pre-season, a striker with a point to prove.
Since signing for Arsenal in 2022, Jesus has failed to better the 14 goals he managed for Manchester City in the 2019/20 season.
That league season remains the best of the Brazilian’s career, who managed 11 goals in his first campaign at Arsenal and just four last time out.
And even if Jesus is one of the best pressing-forwards in world football, those are still numbers that need to improve.
Of course, it may be difficult for Jesus to do so in the early weeks of the season given he appears to have lost his starting spot to Kai Havertz.
Although Arsenal no longer want to sell Jesus, it still seems as if the Brazilian will start the season on the sidelines, tasked with making an impact in the second half.
That being said, when speaking on talkSPORT (12/08, 8:15pm), Murphy shared his opinion on Jesus right now, one ‘people will go against’.
Danny Murphy says Arsenal would struggle to sign a better striker than Gabriel Jesus
This summer, Arsenal have been linked with a ton of strikers, most recently thought to be considering a late move for Victor Osimhen.
Arsenal could go back in for Osimhen, but based on his comments, Murphy would perhaps think that could be a mistake.

Harping back to past seasons, the pundit declared that it would be difficult to find a better striker than Jesus, who always shows up for the new campaign ‘fit, strong and sharp’.
Murphy claimed: “I know some people will go against this, but if you remember Jesus’s start to the season when he is fit and strong and sharp, there are not many you could get in who are better than him.
“I don’t mean as a natural finisher, but he is a handful. And he showed at City that he can play all across the front-line, scoring goals. He looks great in pre-season, he looks really at it.”

Of course, it seems as if Mikel Arteta has ultimately agreed with that view, happy to go without signing a replacement at Arsenal this season.
That being said, Darren Bent thinks Arsenal could make a mistake if they proceed with one deal this summer.
