Given the pre-season that Liverpool have enjoyed, there’s genuine belief at Anfield that they can challenge Arsenal and Manchester City in Arne Slot’s debut season.
Pep Guardiola will be aiming to win the Premier League for the fifth year in a row, with his future beyond the last year of his contract yet to be decided.
Of course, in terms of challengers, Arsenal are definitely City’s strongest opposition from the off, Mikel Arteta has now come so close to beating his former boss to the title twice.
Many believe that Arsenal’s squad depth let them down last season, unable to match City’s momentum during the ‘business end’ of the season.
But with Riccardo Calafiori on board and Arsenal close to signing Mikel Merino, Arteta will enjoy much better support for his starting eleven.
Lyon manager Pierre Sage suggested that Arsenal could win the league after losing 2-0 to Arteta’s side in the Emirates Cup final on Sunday.
And when speaking to beIN SPORTS, former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes also reached the same conclusion.
Paul Scholes thinks Arsenal will finally break Man City’s winning cycle
Scholes said that Man City remain the favourites, it’s almost impossible to argue otherwise, but the pundit stated that he believes it’s Arsenal’s time to end City’s dominance.
He said: “I think the Premier League favourites will be the same as last year, I think City will be the favourites, closely followed by Arsenal.

“I have said a few times now that I expect Arsenal to be the team to win it this year.
“They’ve progressed over the last couple of years with Mikel Arteta especially, I just think this year is the time where they’re ready to win it I think.
“It’s not going to be easy, there’s going to be a lot of competition. We know the top seven or eight teams in England are good teams but I just think this year that Arsenal will be the team to break the City cycle. “
It’s interesting that Scholes doesn’t name Liverpool when discussing the race, which could be an oversight judging by how Slot’s side have started.
But Arsenal are Manchester City’s biggest challengers on paper, and likely in reality.
That being said, Harry Redknapp also chose Arsenal when providing his own prediction recently, a project attracting a lot of support.
