'One to keep an eye on': Journalist says Newcastle might sell their 'breathtaking' player with Tottenham watching closely

TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has claimed that Newcastle United could be tempted to sell Allan Saint-Maximin this summer to raise funds for a new wide player.

The French winger is said to be of interest to Tottenham and Chelsea. The Magpies are thought to be seeking around £40m to sell Saint-Maximin and are thought to be open to doing the deal at the right price and terms.

And speaking on TalkSPORT today, Crook has suggested the need for a new winger, coupled with trying to raise money for the budget, could tempt the Toon into selling the ‘breathtaking‘ wide man.

“They (Newcastle) want another wide player as well, maybe because they could be open to offers for Allan Saint-Maximin,” Crook said on TalkSPORT today.

“I think, to raise some funds. They’re working within this strict structure and budget and the only way this will go up is if they sell players. I don’t know if this is led by the Saudis or Eddie Howe. They aren’t going to be splashing 100s of millions of pounds. I think it would take a big bid, but there are Premier League clubs circling, so it’s just one to keep an eye on.”

TBR’s View: Newcastle Selling Saint-Maximin Seems An Odd One

The need to sell Saint-Maximin to fund the purchase of someone who plays in his position seems a very, very odd one really.

Why would Newcastle let go one of the trickiest wingers in the league for £40m, to then have to go into the market to find a player who can do what Saint-Maximin does and more for the same money? It just doesn’t add up.

However, this one has been mentioned more than once, so there must be legs in it. Either Chelsea or Spurs would be fine for Saint-Maximin, who could add a real different dynamic to both clubs.
