Antonio Conte picked up arguably his most impressive win yet as Tottenham Hotspur boss on Saturday against Manchester City at the Etihad.

The Italian set his side out as he usually would – defensively solid and deadly on the counter-attack. His plan worked to perfection and Tottenham, thanks to a goal from Dejan Kukusevski and a brace from Harry Kane, secured a truly fantastic victory.

Spurs’ win was described by many after the game as a defensive masterclass. City, who boast one of the most dangerous attacks in the world, just couldn’t find a way through like they usually would and that is all down to Conte.

Although it was counter-attacks that caused City the most problems, it was brilliant Tiki-Taka football that saw them concede first. Conte made sure to let the world know yesterday that his coaching skills are not just limited to counter-attacks, he can do what Pep does too!

January signing Kulusevski made his first start for Tottenham against City on Saturday and it took him a little over three minutes to score his first goal for his new club.

The Swede deserves a lot of credit for finishing off the move, but it started from the back with Hugo Lloris who rolled the ball to his defenders, who then passed it to Kane and the Englishman set Son Heung-min through with a delightful through ball.

The South Korean rolled it into the path of Kulusevski and it was an easy goal in the end. Tottenham scored a Guardiola-Esque goal against his own side and Conte absolutely loved that.

“Counterattacks?!? Maybe not…,” he wrote on Instagram responding to his reputation of being a manager who always sets his side to play on the break.

As much of a genius as Conte is, nobody really expected Tottenham to beat Manchester City at the Etihad on Saturday, especially not after losing three games on the bounce in the Premier League.

However, Spurs looked a totally different side on Saturday and completely deserved their win. Kane, who has struggled this season, showed everyone what he’s all about in what was one of the best individual performances we’ve seen in the Premier League in a long, long time.

If Tottenham can play the same way every single time, they will finish in the top four this season. However, consistency has been their biggest problem over the years and that is one of the main reasons why fans are still concerned.
