Newcastle United have apparently been eyeing Atletico Madrid and England ace Kieran Trippier for a number of months.
And on New Year’s Day, multiple outlets reported that the Magpies have submitted a formal bid for the defender.
According to The Athletic, Trippier has apparently all-but agreed to the deal himself.

Clauses relating to what would happen in the event of relegation were still being negotiated before the January window opened, added the outlet.
The Athletic has also claimed that Atletico are unlikely to accept this first bid.
“Trippier now has to decide if he wants to leave or not,” Sky Sports has quoted Atletico boss Diego Simeone as saying.
“We will move on his decision.”
Newcastle are in dire need of bolstering their ranks in the January transfer window.
The Magpies are fighting for their Premier League survival and key players have also suffered a number of injuries.
According to The Athletic, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is eyeing four to six new recruits this month.

His wanted list reportedly also includes two centre-backs, a left-back, a midfielder and a striker.
Trippier joined Atletico from Tottenham in 2019 for a reported £20million.
He has made 85 appearances for the Spanish capital side, winning La Liga last season.
Trippier has also won 35 England caps and featured in the Euro 2020 final.
In December, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook claimed Newcastle “might have to go to more than £25million” for Trippier.
Meanwhile, ESPN reported that Atletico were expecting Newcastle to bid over 20m euro (£17million) for Trippier in January.
