Chris Sutton has told the BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club that he thinks Steven Gerrard would swap Rangers for Aston Villa.
Gerrard, 41, is being strongly linked with a move to Aston Villa. The Mail report that talks could begin between Villa and Rangers this week.
Christian Purslow wants to have a manager in place by the time Villa play host to Graham Potter’s Brighton next week. He must move quickly.
The report from The Mail also claims that Gerrard would be keen – but would want to bring four of his Rangers coaching staff with him.
Discussing the reports of Gerrard to Villa, Celtic icon and ex-Villa striker Sutton feels Gerrard would swap Rangers for the Midlands club.

It sees Sutton disagree with Danny Murphy, who questioned why he would need to swap Rangers for Villa – before getting the Liverpool job.
“If you’re asking me if he was offered the job, would he take the job? I think he would,” Sutton said. “I don’t want to call Aston Villa a stepping stone.
“They’re an enormous club, but he needs to maybe learn his trade at a club like Aston Villa. I think that would suit him.
“I just wonder if Steven Gerrard has come to the end of his shelf life. If he’s offered the job, I’m pretty sure he’d take it.”

Sutton on Gerrard: Villa job is perfect for Rangers manager
Murphy states that given the size of Rangers, Gerrard could simply go straight from the Scottish club to Liverpool – but he needs experience.
Just look at Frank Lampard. A short, but successful stint at Derby County saw Lampard go straight into the Chelsea job – but it only lasted 18 months.
Gerrard needs to join a club where he is confident he can shine. At Villa, he will have money, and has a good group of players.
They are far more capable than a relegation scrap. In fact, even without Jack Grealish, top 10 is not out of their grasp. It is ideal for Gerrard.
For Villa, Gerrard would be an exciting appointment. A Premier League legend, but also a talented boss – losing just one of his last 52 league games.
