Chris Sutton has issued his verdict on reports that Kieran Trippier wants to leave Newcastle United for Bayern Munich in the January transfer window.

Kieran Trippier has become a surprise contender to leave St James’ Park this month. It was two years ago that the right-back arrived on Tyneside. And in truth, he was a game-changing signing for the Magpies.

However, it seems that he could now move on. The Daily Mail reports that he is keen to join Bayern Munich, with the Bavarian giants looking to sign Trippier on loan.

Newcastle want a deal which is worth £12 million before they allow Trippier to go. So it appears that there is an openness on all sides to the idea of the Englishman moving to the Bundesliga.

Trippier has been struggling for form in recent months. But he would unquestionably leave a massive void if he moved on from Newcastle.

And speaking on It’s All Kicking Off, Chris Sutton suggested that it would be disappointing to see Trippier push to leave Newcastle in this window.

“This has come out of the blue, I don’t know what’s going on at Newcastle at this moment in time. From where they seemed to be a happy, content club a couple of months ago, it’s all kicking off. All these players who are unsettled, Trippier, Callum Wilson, Joelinton may not sign a new deal, they can’t bring players in,” he said.

“Is Trippier right to leave? I think it’s a bit of a slap in the face to Newcastle United supporters.”

Newcastle star may fear chance may not come along again

The good news for Newcastle is that they do have a player who can come in if Trippier does move on. Tino Livramento arrived in the summer. And Livramento has been bright on a number of occasions for Newcastle.

Of course, Trippier’s departure would be a big moment for Newcastle. He has seemingly been so important in driving the standards up.

He may perhaps feel that the chance to join Bayern is too good to turn down at this stage of his career. Trippier turns 34 later this year.

Newcastle meanwhile, are having difficulty navigating the transfer market. And Trippier may be worried about how long it will take the club to rise up the table again.
