Report: Chelsea have 'considerable interest' in £132m 'superstar' who Tottenham want in January

Chelsea are likely to make some sort of move to sign AC Milan forward, Rafael Leao, during the January transfer window.

The Blues are thought to be among a cluster of teams, including Tottenham, who like the look of Leao. The Portuguese star has been impressing over in Italy and has been labelled a ‘superstar‘ by journalist Dean Jones.

Miguel Delaney writes in his weekly Reading the Game column for The Independent how Chelsea have a ‘considerable interest’ in the forward and that a move in January may well happen.

Leao is thought to hold a mammoth £132m release-clause in his contract. However, Chelsea’s new owner, Todd Boehly, is keen on adding a number of marquee signings over the coming windows and money won’t be too much of an issue for the Blues owner.

Leao, 23, has been in fine form for Milan but has struggled a touch in the Champions League. Indeed, he’s had to sit back and watch Chelsea dismantle his Milan side over the past few weeks, with Graham Potter’s side having too much for AC in both group games.

Chelsea spent big in the summer on the likes of Sterling, Fofana and Koulibaly. However, more incomings are expected in the coming few windows as the club looks to back Graham Potter.

TBR’s View: Leao To Chelsea Or Tottenham Is Intriguing

Despite not being at his best against Chelsea, it’s obvious how much talent Rafa Leao has in those boots. We saw glimpses of it at Stamford Bridge before Chelsea ran away with the game and there is a player in there.

Leao would improve both Chelsea and Tottenham right now. He is exciting, quick, scores goals, and gets fans off their feet as well.

Even if he does cost £100m+, then in the long run, it might well be worth it.
