Report: PSG considering triggering Spurs target Leao's release clause
Tottenham Hotspur may be in big trouble if they do indeed hope to sign Rafael Leao, with Media Foot in France claiming that PSG are actually prepared to trigger his release clause – worth nearly £132 million.
Leao is one of the most talented young players in Europe. And he has made a fine start to the season with AC Milan, having already played a pivotal role in their Scudetto win last term.
Unsurprisingly, there is a lot of interest in the 23-year-old. In fact, Calciomercato. It reported last week that Tottenham are admirers of the Portuguese.
PSG prepared to trigger Leao release clause
Unfortunately, they may be powerless to prevent him moving to PSG.
The Ligue 1 champions are considering paying his release clause, according to Media Foot. Luis Campos wants to know if Leao would be keen to head to Parc des Princes. But he has already signed him once before, for Lille.
That release clause is worth €150 million, which is worth just under £132 million.
You would imagine that most sides would not be prepared to battle with PSG if they do indeed decide to try and trigger his release clause.
Certainly, it is hard to see Tottenham having anything to do with the race. As noted by Transfermarkt, Tanguy Ndombele remains their record signing at £54 million.
They have shown some real intent in the market since Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte joined the club. And it would be no surprise if they do break their transfer record at some stage in one of the coming windows.
But Leao’s release clause is almost two-and-a-half times what Tottenham paid for Ndombele.
Leao is an ‘electric‘ forward. And his ceiling looks to be incredibly high. However, Spurs will surely look elsewhere if PSG do indeed decide to trigger his release clause.
