Chelsea have been looking for a new striker for a long time.
The Blues have gone all around the houses in their search for a new centre-forward.
Victor Osimhen was strongly linked to Chelsea, while Ivan Toney was also linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Both players are still yet to move on deadline day, but it would appear both men are now on their way to Saudi Arabia.
Therefore, Chelsea need a backup plan, and according to The Guardian, the Blues are speaking about signing a striker from within the Premier League.

Chelsea in Evan Ferguson talks
According to The Guardian, Chelsea are looking at Evan Ferguson as an alternative option to Osimhen and Toney.
This report states that Chelsea have held talks with Brighton about signing the ‘special’ striker.
Ferguson has been tipped to be the next big thing, but his form in recent times is worrying – he’s not scored a Premier League goal in 2024.
Evan Ferguson is a typical Chelsea signing
There may not be a more archetypal Chelsea signing than Evan Ferguson.
As we all know, Chelsea like to buy young players who are perceived to have big potential, while they also love shopping at Brighton.
Chelsea have bought Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella and Moises Caicedo from the Seagulls in recent times, while they also took Graham Potter and a few recruitment figures from Brighton too.
This is a signing that very much fits into Chelsea’s transfer model, but, as many of their recent signings have shown, that transfer model doesn’t exactly work too well.
There’s a lot to like about Ferguson as a player, and he has a lot of potential as a young forward making his name in the game, but after a lengthy goal drought, this signing would be a risk for Chelsea.
Whether or not the Blues can get this deal done remains to be seen.
