Celtic look to be edging closer to landing one of their transfer targets this summer, with The Northern Echo reporting that their current club are ready to admit defeat in their push to keep one of their strikers.
The Hoops have been linked with a move for Charlie Wyke for a little while. And it was recently claimed that they were growing increasingly confident that they would win the race for the 28-year-old.

Wyke is out of contract with Sunderland this summer. And that previous report suggested that fresh talks with Celtic were expected following Ange Postecoglou’s appointment.
The Northern Echo reports that those discussions have now been held. And interestingly, it is suggested that Sunderland are almost ready to admit defeat in their bid to keep Wyke.

The report adds that Wyke would rather move to Parkhead than join a Championship side.
Wyke would arrive with point to prove if he completes Celtic transfer
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the links with the striker divided some of the Celtic fans on social media.
Some suggested that a free transfer would be a good piece of business. Others however, seemed much less enthused.
Wyke has just enjoyed a superb season with the Black Cats. However, his tally of 30 goals only came after he had scored 11 in 60 during his first two years at the Stadium of Light.
It would certainly be a big surprise if Wyke was the only striker signed by Celtic this summer – if he is indeed on his way to the Scottish Premiership.
He would clearly arrive with a point to prove. His form has fluctuated quite considerably during his career.
If Celtic are going to get a 30-goal striker on a free transfer, the move is clearly a masterstroke.
But it potentially says a lot that some still deem such a move to be a bit of a gamble when he may arrive for nothing.
