Report: Celtic growing confident 28-year-old transfer; Hoops will step up interest with Postecoglou in
Celtic are growing optimistic that they will be able to sign Charlie Wyke in the summer transfer window, with The Northern Echo reporting that they are about to put an offer on the table for the striker.
Wyke is set to be a free agent this summer after an outstanding season at Sunderland. The 28-year-old ended the campaign with 26 goals in League One.
However, the Black Cats failed to seal promotion. And it now appears that he is set to be on the move.
According to The Northern Echo, Sunderland have put a new contract on the table. Meanwhile, several Championship sides have held talks about a move for the forward.
But it is claimed that Celtic are hopeful of winning the race. With their new manager now through the door, they are reportedly planning to step up their interest in Wyke.
It is noted that Celtic now plan to make an offer with Ange Postecoglou appointed.
Wyke an interesting transfer target for Celtic after mixed Sunderland spell
Wyke has been superb in front of goal this past season. And he boasts a career record of better than an goal every three games.
On a free transfer, it could prove to be an inspired piece of business. It certainly has the potential to be.
However, Wyke has not had the best spell at Sunderland overall. He scored 11 goals in his first 60 appearances for the club.
So there is a possibility that he could endure long spells without a good return in front of goal.
But it is an encouraging sign that Celtic are increasingly confident that Wyke will be Parkhead-bound.
The Hoops fans will be hoping that he is the first of many to come through the door over the coming months.
