Carnevali claims 'right offer' needed for Locatelli, weeks after claiming Arsenal were 'pushing hard' to sign ace

The Gunners were reportedly keen on signing one of Italy’s Euro 2020 stars. Some reports even claimed they were willing to meet the side’s €40m asking price.

However, Locatelli was said to prefer a move to Juventus and Arsenal’s efforts were halted in its tracks.

But, the Londoners recently received a boost in their efforts to sign the 23-year-old. A report suggested if Tottenham failed with their move for Cristian Romero, the side could sign the ace.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport, the chief claimed his club were waiting for the right bid for the midfielder.

It conflicts with what the 64-year-old said a few weeks ago, where he claimed Mikel Arteta’s men had made an offer. He even went as far as saying the club were ‘pushing hard’ for a move.

When talking about Locatelli, Carnevali said: “We’re waiting for the right bid for Locatelli… if it doesn’t arrive, he’ll stay here. We’re not going to sell our best players later in August.”

Carnevali used Arsenal to secure a sale for Locatelli

From an offer that met the club’s demands to the chief waiting for the right bid, something seems off.

It’s widely known Mikel Arteta’s team are interested in the player, so that’s not disputed. However, it seems Carnevali may have used Arsenal to force Juventus into paying up for Locatelli.

The Serie A giants are hot on the trail of the ace and have been after his superb performances at Euro 2020. And the player himself is keen on securing a move.

If the Gunners had met the outfit’s demands, a bid would’ve been accepted, but, this was never the case.

It seems the CEO may have employed untruthful tactics to get his team the best possible deal.
