‘He did something special’: £60m striker became a club hero last night, after reports Arsenal could make bid

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was the hero last night as his header ensured the Toffees remained in the Premier League.

The former Sheffield United striker rose to send to Goodison Park into raptures as they completed a memorable comeback against Crystal Palace in the most dramatic of circumstances. Calvert-Lewin has missed large chunks of the season with injury, but stepped up to the plate for Frank Lampard when it mattered.

Of course, keeping Calvert-Lewin is another thing altogether for Everton. It’s well known Arsenal are interested in him, with talk of a £60m bid mentioned more than once. But in spite of that, Calvert-Lewin leaving was not on Frank Lampard’s mind, as he sung the praises of his striker last night.

“Dominic’s not been fit, even when he’s been playing in my time here, it’s been getting back from an injury,” Lampard said after the game.

“It’s difficult to judge from the outside. In the past two games, you’ve seen a powerhouse of a centre-forward, one of the best. For me, he’s the best out there as a forward who can leap. His goal was a huge one in Everton’s history. He’s had to suck it up this year and he’s done it. He did something special.”

There’s also talk of Tottenham being keen on Calvert-Lewin. It remains to be seen if a bid will come Everton’s way, although the pressure has been somewhat relieved by survival.

TBR’s View: Calvert-Lewin Could Need To Leave Everton To Further Career

And that isn’t disrespecting Everton, but it’s a fact that the England man might need to play higher up the table to really get going.

Calvert-Lewin will have aspirations of really challenging Harry Kane in a Three Lions shirt. Unfortunately, he’s not going to be doing that playing for a team battling relegation.

Of course, Everton might make some big summer signings and that could all change. But if the likes of Arsenal and Spurs do come knocking, he could find it hard to resist.
