Report: Tottenham want Calvert-Lewin but think striker's unlikely to join
Tottenham believe Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be unlikely to join them despite their longstanding interest in the Everton star due to the fact that he would not be a guaranteed starter, according to a report from Football London.
Tottenham plan to target a new striker in the summer. The good news is that they look set to keep Harry Kane. But obviously, that then throws up its own challenges regarding finding someone to rival him.
Clearly, Spurs have struggled trying to find a player good enough to compete with him, but also one who would be content to be more of a backup.
Football London reports that Tottenham have been interested in Calvert-Lewin for some time. And certainly, his admirers may fancy their chances of luring him away this summer with Everton struggling at the wrong end of the table.
However, Spurs are not optimistic about the likelihood of the England international joining. Football London reports that they do not think that Calvert-Lewin would be prepared to join a side where he would not be a guaranteed starter.
Calvert-Lewin unlikely to join Tottenham
Tottenham fans may not be disappointed by the idea of not signing the £60 million-rated Calvert-Lewin. He has been ‘fantastic‘ at times. But he has not enjoyed the best season, by any means.
He has struggled with injury. And when he has been fit, he has only managed four goals in 15 Premier League games.
He clearly has the potential to be much better. It has been a torrid season for Everton. And that will not have helped his form.
But some Spurs fans may have been underwhelmed if Calvert-Lewin signed. There are some seriously exciting names on the market. And they will hope one of those ends up at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
