Tottenham Hotspur winger Bryan Gil has posted a cryptic message on Instagram after his reported loan move to Valencia fell through on transfer deadline day.
The Spaniard joined Spurs from Sevilla last year in a £21 million deal that saw Erik Lamela go the other way (Independent). He hasn’t had enough opportunities at Tottenham, and many felt he would leave on loan again this summer. That, however, did not happen, and he’s now stuck in North London until at least January.

Gil looked set to join Valencia on loan until the end of the season. The Spanish club’s manager, Gennaro Gattuso, even claimed that a deal was ’99 per cent’ done, and they were just waiting for Spurs to find a replacement.
Tottenham did not sign anybody on transfer deadline day yesterday, and Gil’s move to Spain collapsed as a result.
The Times’ journalist, Tom Allnut, revealed that Valencia were furious that Spurs pulled the plug on the deal, which was agreed ‘weeks ago’. Gil doesn’t seem too happy either.
The young Spaniard shared a picture on his Instagram story yesterday with a message in Spanish that translates to, as per The Express: “Sometimes an old photo makes us remember the times when we were happy and we didn’t realise it.”
We don’t know for sure if he’s speaking about Tottenham’s decision to block his move to Valencia, but the timing of the post sure makes it seem that way.

TBR View:
The transfer window is now shut and Gil just has to accept Tottenham’s decision.
A loan move to Spain would’ve been perfect for him. He’s well down Antonio Conte’s pecking order at the moment, and even with the five-substitutes rule, we don’t see him playing a lot for Spurs this season.
However, there’s nothing he can do apart from putting his head down and working hard. If he catches Conte’s eye in training, he may well get a few minutes, but it really does seem unlikely considering the options the Italian has at his disposal.
The January transfer window will be Gil’s next chance to secure a move elsewhere, and it will be interesting to see if Valencia will come back in for him.
