Blackburn announce Tottenham target Phillips has signed contract
It has been a bizarre time for the 17-year-old. Former Rovers boss Tony Mowbray previously labelled him a ‘phenomenal‘ talent.
He has been in and around the first-team fold this season, making his senior debut under Jon Dahl Tomasson. And it seemed that he may be on the verge of leaving.
Reports in the summer claimed that Tottenham were about to win the race to sign Phillips. In fact, Fabio Paratici was ready to attend a Blackburn game as Spurs seemingly closed in on a deal.
However, it was quickly claimed that Phillips wanted to stay put. And Blackburn have now made an announcement over his future.
The Championship side have confirmed that Phillips has agreed his first professional contract until 2025 – the maximum length of deal he can sign.

The news has seemingly been on the cards for some time. So those Spurs fans still hoping that Phillips may yet join may welcome the closure on the situation.
Obviously, the teenager’s future will likely become a talking point further down the line. Should he continue on his current trajectory, he is going to be in the Premier League sooner or later.
But you can understand his decision to stay. He is featuring for Blackburn right now. They are a big club in the second tier. And that will stand him in good stead as he gets older and develops further.
Certainly, you would imagine that Tottenham will continue to monitor his progress over the next few years.
