Aston Villa’s rocky start to the Premier League season brought about some early concern, while some shuffling in the hierarchy is causing yet more uncertainty.

The Villans have struggled to bring about some free-flowing football in the early weeks of the Premier League, with it taking five games for them to score their first league goal.

Unai Emery was hopeful that his side could finally land three points over the weekend, but Aston Villa’s draw with Sunderland, who were reduced to ten men after Reinildo’s red card, only piled on the misery.

So, with three points from five games, and only one goal to show for their efforts, there is some understandable anxiety surrounding the club.

That may only deepen, as further changes behind the scenes at Aston Villa point towards further instability.

Monchi set to leave Aston Villa as president of football operations

A slow start to the season has seen plenty of questions surrounding how Aston Villa have got here.

They look a far cry from the Aston Villa that caused PSG problems in the Champions League just a few months prior.

Blame has been scattered everywhere, from certain managerial decisions to player performances, the recruitment strategy to the boardroom.

While that is ongoing, Villa are making changes, which could have huge consequences on the future direction of the club.

According to reporter John Percy, the president of football operations, Monchi, is set to leave his role at the club.

He has been described as a “close ally” of Emery, having joined the club in July 2023 to help push the team on.

It’s a huge move at Aston Villa, which suggests a potential change in approach or strategy from those at the top.

With questions surrounding recruitment strategy, that direction shift could change everything.

For some fans, it isn’t a good sign, however.

Aston Villa fans worried by Monchi’s exit from the club

With the change coming during a moment of difficulty for Aston Villa, plenty of fans are concerned that it could point towards further problems.

Taking to social media, one supporter said: “It certainly feels like the wheels have come off. And we were going so well… I’ve been around the block a few times and this all seems ominously familiar. There could be bad times coming.”

“Celebrating Monchi leaving is mad. We had a good thing, it’s falling apart. I fear mid-table mediocrity for another 5 years. The media 6 have won,” another supporter said.

Another fan added: “Feels like it’s all unravelling a bit, doesn’t it?”

Other supporters were less concerned, with one fan saying: “Monchi then…. My opinion about #avfc has long been that our squad had come to the end of a cycle and Villa wanted to freshen it up over the summer. That didn’t happen. Probably for lots and lots of reasons.”

Another fan added: “Should’ve sacked Monchi when we let a phenom in Duran leave to keep a regressing Watkins (as much as I love him) and replaced him with subpar players.”

Overall, it means Aston Villa are set for yet more change, while they look to arrest their poor early-season form.
