'Been told this morning': Spurs could now sell £72k-a-week star and £15m teammate, journalist claims
TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook has claimed that both Eric Dier and Matt Doherty could be surplus to requirements at Spurs this summer.
But of course, part of the overhaul that will take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer will likely involve plenty of players leaving.
Lamela looks set to go as part of the deal for Gil. And perhaps he may be joined by two more experienced members of the Spurs squad before the deadline passes.
That is because Crook has today suggested on talkSPORT that he has been told that both Dier and Doherty could be surplus to requirements.
Spurs fans will not be surprised to see Dier and Doherty linked with Tottenham Hotspur Stadium exit
It is probably not a huge surprise to see either linked with the exit.
Doherty obviously knows Nuno from his time at Wolves. But he endured an extremely tough first year in North London following his near-£15 million move.
Dier meanwhile, has come in for a lot of criticism in the last few years. Some of the concern has arguably been warranted however.
The 27-year-old has not kicked on as many expected he would do. In many ways, his early versatility potentially counted against him as it took some time for his best position to emerge.
He was one of several centre-backs who really struggled last season.
Much will depend on what offers they can attract for the pair. Spurs are surely going to want a substantial fee for both men.
Dier is on over £72,000-a-week, while Doherty is on over £65,000-a-week.
And replacements will be required. So it would make little sense for Tottenham to let either go on the cheap.
