Liverpool are yet to make a signing in this summer transfer window, but that could be about to change.
Indeed, the Reds are said to be closing in on a deal to sign Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, with personal terms agreed.
From the outside looking in, this looks like a rather strange signing.
Indeed, Liverpool already have two brilliant goalkeepers in the shape of Caoimhin Kelleher and Alisson Becker, and Mamardashvili would potentially be an unnecessary addition.
However, Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Paul Robinson has advocated for this signing.
Indeed, the pundit says that Mamardashvili is an outstanding goalkeeper, stating that he is the best in La Liga in his position.

Paul Robinson hails Giorgi Mamardashvili
The pundit spoke highly of the Valencia ace.
“Where this leaves Kelleher is another conversation. Alisson is 31 years old now, you look at him, he missed a good chunk of last season. Mamardashvili, he’s an outstanding talent, at 23 years old, he was the best goalkeeper in La Liga last year at Valencia,” Robinson said.
“He’s just getting better and better, we saw his ability at the Euros. He’s agile, great ability to get down low, he uses his feet really well, he’s the modern-day goalkeeper.”
Mamardashvili is a signing for the future
Mamardashvili is a fantastic goalkeeper, but there really isn’t space for him in this Liverpool team at the moment.
Alisson is the Reds’ number one as things stand, and it would take something remarkable to displace the Brazilian.
At the age of just 23, Mamardashvili has time on his side, and, realistically, he could be an option for Liverpool in five years’ time.
Liverpool’s plan is to initially send Mamardashvili out on loan, so it may take some time for him to get his chance in the Liverpool first-team.
Robinson reckons that this could be an ‘outstanding’ signing, and there’s reason to be excited about this one.
