Liverpool are hoping to make it two signings in quick succession but could now agree a shock deal with La Liga giants Barcelona ahead of the transfer deadline.
Reds fans have enjoyed two 2-0 victories to start the new Premier League season but have also been concerned with a lack of transfer business.
Before Monday night, Liverpool were the only Premier League team yet to bring in a new signing this summer.
This may thought be a case of buses; you wait for one and two come along at once.
Arne Slot’s men have snapped up goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili before loaning him back to Valencia.
Liverpool are now close to signing winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus too as Liverpool push to get business done before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Barcelona make shock Liverpool move
There could be some departures from Anfield in the coming days despite a number of recent sales.
Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho have both joined Brentford whilst Red Bull Salzburg have snapped up Bobby Clark.
Few could have expected Barcelona to be calling up Liverpool about a potential loan deal, but that appears to be happening.
Fabrizio Romano claims that Barcelona have now submitted a loan bid for Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic.
Barcelona are willing to pay £3.4million for a straight loan deal with no option to keep Bajcetic permanently.
Barca have suffered a blow with wonderkid midfielder Marc Bernal already suffering a season-ending injury.
The Catalan giants now want Bajcetic to replace Bernal and will be waiting for Liverpool to give the green light.
Bajcetic hails from Vigo in Spain and has even played for Spain’s Under-21’s, so a move to Barcelona may well appeal.
The 19-year-old made just one Premier League appearance last season as he struggled with injuries but has been hailed as a ‘top quality’ player by Tyler Morton.
Pep Lijnders could miss out on Bajcetic
Bajcetic needs a loan move in order to play regular football and Liverpool may question whether he would really play enough at the Camp Nou.
There is another offer on the table for Bajcetic though as Red Bull Salzburg want to sign the midfielder.
Red Bull Salzburg are managed by Jurgen Klopp’s former assistant Pep Lijnders and have already signed Clark on a permanent basis.
Lijnders now wants Bajcetic took and ‘advanced talks’ were held on Tuesday ahead of a potential deal.
Barcelona are now barging into the race though and will hope to hijack Lijnders with a deal in the coming days.
