Report: Barcelona keeping tabs on Franck Kessie; he's wanted by Spurs and Liverpool
Spurs and Liverpool remain keen on signing Milan midfielder Franck Kessie, but could face added competition from Barcelona now too.
Mundo Deportivo make the claim, suggesting that Kessie’s potential availability on a free next summer means Barca are keeping a close watching brief when it comes to Kessie.
The Catalan giants’ financial problems meant they were only allowed to bring in free-agents this summer. Crucially, they also lost Lionel Messi to PSG, as well as Antoine Griezmann to Atletico Madrid.
Previous reports have suggested Spurs are keen on doing a deal for Kessie, and have even offered him and Milan terms over the summer. In addition, reports just this week claimed Milan were willing to let Liverpool take Kessie off their hands for around £24m.
But while Barcelona might fancy their chances of pinching Kessie here, the reports from Spain suggest their financial worries might mean a new isn’t possible at all.
Spurs and Liverpool, then, will surely be keeping themselves on red alert.
TBR’s View: Kessie a solid addition, especially on a free
Because of the pandemic, you feel a lot of clubs are playing a waiting game with some players in their sights. We’ve seen it with Youri Tielemans, and now Kessie could be in a similar boat.
But while £24m might be a stretch, if Kessie is available on a free, then both Spurs and Liverpool need to be in the mix. Put simply, for nothing, he’s a very good squad addition.
Barcelona might well have put their name in the hat here. But both Liverpool and Spurs can be confident of seeing the Spanish side off.
