Manchester United are slowly making progress in the transfer market.
This summer looked set to be a productive one when Manchester United swiftly sealed a £63m move for Matheus Cunha at the start of the window, but the time since has largely been spent haggling with Brentford over Bryan Mbeumo.
TBR Football understand Manchester United are now close to landing Mbeumo in a £71m deal – and a new goalkeeper is seemingly next on the list, with the Red Devils now expected to bid for Senne Lammens.
UPDATE – Manchester United have now officially announced the signing of Mbeumo from Brentford.
Royal Antwerp expect Manchester United bid for Senne Lammens
HLN in Belgium now state that Royal Antwerp believe Manchester United are about to submit an offer for the 23-year-old.
The Belgian news outlet claim that Royal Antwerp hope to receive a bid worth around €15m to €20m (£13m to £17m) for Lammens, who is keen to move to a top European league amid interest from Galatasaray as well.
Manchester United were close to signing Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa – according to Minuto Uno in Argentina – a player HLN also mention is a target for the Red Devils, although it now sounds as if those at Old Trafford are going to make an approach for the cheaper Royal Antwerp glovesman instead.
Lammens – who has less than two years remaining on his contract at Royal Antwerp – kept ten clean sheets in 44 appearances across all competitions last season.
This might not seem that impressive, but the Royal Antwerp No.91 had a truly rare 2024/25 campaign amongst his peers, with DataMB showing that no other goalkeeper on the planet prevented more goals than his tally of 16.47 last season.
Senne Lammens has already suggested he would love to join Manchester United
The Belgian has been on Manchester United’s radar for many months now, and was even asked about links to Old Trafford by Gazet van Antwerpen in February.
Lammens described the feeling as “special” when asked what it meant to be monitored by Manchester United, saying: “The first time I heard (about Manchester United interest) I thought, wow. Immediately a world (renowned) team that follows you. That is special.
“Of course, I was also spoken to about it a lot and when I made a save in training, it was United this, United that (from colleagues)… it’s only positive. Especially because it’s the best competition in the world and my profile – my stature and way of playing – is similar to English football. You have to physically hold your own there and that suits me.”
Lammens – who Leeds also admire – clearly backs himself to do well in the Premier League, and could soon be competing against Andre Onana for the No.1 shirt under Amorim.
