Manchester United are close to making another new signing.
The Red Devils have already landed Matheus Cunha, Diego Leon and Enzo Kana-Biyik as Ruben Amorim aims to improve on last season’s position of 15th in the Premier League.
TBR Football understand Manchester United are now confident of signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford before next week – after sending a new £70m bid to the Bees.
A story from Minuto Uno in Argentina adds that Manchester United are close to signing Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa as well.
Emiliano Martinez close to joining Manchester United
The Argentinian news outlet claim that the Aston Villa No.23 is close to a move to Old Trafford.
Minuto Uno state that Martinez – who has been called a “world class” goalkeeper – is on the verge of becoming a Manchester United player in a deal worth £40m.
Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir both struggled to impress between the sticks last season, so the signing of a new goalkeeper has been prioritised at Old Trafford.
Senne Lammens – who said links to Manchester United are “special” – was also under consideration by the Red Devils, but Martinez now looks set to arrive instead of the Belgian.
Deal will finally resolve Alejandro Garnacho situation
Minuto Uno add that Alejandro Garnacho will be moving in the opposite direction as part of this deal, as Aston Villa are ready to take the Argentine on loan following his fallout with Amorim.
The South American was left out of the starting XI for the UEFA Europa League final defeat against Tottenham, and seems to have no future at Old Trafford.
TBR Football understand Chelsea also like Garnacho, but the Blues now look set to miss out as the 21-year-old nears a move to Villa Park.
If this deal does actually materialise, Manchester United will be unable to use Martinez for the first three games of the 2025/26 campaign, after he was sent off – coincidentally at Old Trafford – on the final day of last season.
