Arsenal were open to selling Takehiro Tomiyasu during the final weeks of the summer transfer window, with the defender attracting a lot of interest from Premier League rivals.
That is according to a report from the Daily Mail, which notes that the Gunners are now looking at agreeing a new contract with the Japan international.
Takehiro Tomiyasu is looking set to be rewarded with an extension at the Emirates. He has been a very decent signing following his £20 million move from Bologna.
Arsenal were willing to sell Takehiro Tomiyasu this summer
Tomiyasu has struggled with injury over the last couple of years. However, he has been excellent for the Gunners so far this season. And it appears that his form is not going unnoticed elsewhere.

Bayern Munich would love to sign Tomiyasu in January. And the Daily Mail reports that clubs in the Premier League were interested in the 25-year-old in the summer.
In fact, Arsenal were open to letting Tomiyasu leave as they looked to recoup some of the money that they have spent on the squad in the last couple of years.
However, the injury to Jurrien Timber forced Arsenal to rethink their stance on Tomiyasu. And that has proved to be a blessing in disguise in Tomiyasu’s case, with the Daily Mail now reporting that he is in line to get a new contract.
Finally, a slight positive to come from Jurrien Timber’s awful luck
Tomiyasu is, in many ways, the perfect squad player. He can play across the backline. In fact, it is hard to say what exactly is his best position – particularly with how Mikel Arteta wants his defence to play.
He has been a ‘world-class‘ player whenever he has been fit. So it would be a coup for Arsenal to agree a new contract with the defender in the coming months.
If there is one slight positive to emerge from the hugely disappointing injury news concerning Timber, it is perhaps that it has seemingly led to Tomiyasu forcing his way back into the picture in North London.
