Arsenal and Tottenham now reportedly battling for 'one of the best players' of the 2022 World Cup
Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Alexis MacAllister in recent days.
According to AS, the Gunners have set their sights on the Argentina international.
Meanwhile, L’Interista claimed last week that Spurs are amongst those who want MacAllister.
Arsenal and Tottenham are far from the only clubs in pursuit of Mac Allister, however.
The likes of Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Juventus are reportedly eyeing the midfielder too.
The 23-year-old’s stock has risen manifold over the past month thanks to his efforts at the World Cup.
MacAllister helped Argentina win the trophy for the first time since 1986.
He bossed the midfield in the final against France and provided a superb assist for Angel Di Maria.
‘We are very proud’
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi has described his player as “one of the best” in Qatar.
He was speaking to the press ahead of his side’s Carabao Cup fourth-round meeting with Charlton on Wednesday.
“We are very proud of Alexis. He was one of the best players at the tournament,” BBC Sport quote De Zerbi as saying.
“I had many messages with him and I’m very happy for him.”
Many more of Mac Allister’s peers have been singing his praises too.
Brighton teammate Joel Veltman told Brighton’s official website that he has been ‘amazing‘ in Qatar.
Meanwhile, Arsenal coach Jack Wilshere named MacAllister in his World Cup team of the tournament.
It has been reported that Brighton have a £30million price tag on the player.
If this is true, it would be a bargain for Arsenal and/or Tottenham.
However, the chances are that a bidding war would break out for one of the breakout stars of Qatar 2022.
