Arsenal think 21-year-old could become a really ‘special’ player, he’s Mikel Arteta’s priority signing – Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano claims that Arsenal think Mykhaylo Mudryk could become a ‘special’ player and he’s currently Mikel Arteta’s priority signing this month.

Arsenal appear to be prioritising a move for Mudryk during the current transfer window and they have seemingly submitted a new proposal after having their opening offer knocked back by Shakhtar Donetsk.

Romano claimed yesterday that the Gunners’ opening bid worth around £53 million was turned down by the Ukrainian club but they have already upped their offer.

Arteta will be desperate to land an attacking player after Gabriel Jesus picked up a knee injury during the World Cup and it seems the Spaniard has his heart set on signing Mudryk.

The 21-year-old has been in devastating form this season, particularly in the Champions League. He managed to score three times and provide two assists for Shakhtar before they were knocked out at the group stages.

And off the back of some impressive displays in Europe, Arsenal feel he could become a ‘special’ player in the future.

Arsenal think Mudryk could become ‘special’

Romano has provided an update to GiveMeSport on Mudryk’s potential switch to north London.

The transfer insider says the Gunners are prioritising a move for the Ukrainian due to his high ceiling.

“I think their main focus remains on Mykhaylo Mudryk,” Romano said.

“The feeling of all the people in the industry is that Arsenal know how special this guy can become in the next few years.”

Mudryk seems desperate to join Arsenal and has dropped plenty of hints over the past month on his social media accounts, including a video of Mikel Arteta on his Instagram page.

The Sun claimed last week that Arteta’s men have made a second bid for the Shakhtar Donetsk star worth around £62 million. And it seems they are moving closer towards striking a deal, with Sport Analytic reporting that Arteta has already spoken with the youngster over a possible move to north London.

Mudryk would certainly fit the bill as a young player with huge potential, something Arsenal have prioritised in recent years.

Signing the Ukrainian star would be massive for Arsenal’s title hopes as they currently lack depth across the front-three.

Eddie Nketiah has stepped up in Jesus’ absence but Arteta still lacks quality back-up options to both Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.
