Arsenal still awaiting response to Moussa Diaby enquiry - journalist
Dharmesh Sheth has told Sky Sports that Bayer Leverkusen are yet to respond to Arsenal registering an interest in Moussa Diaby as the Gunners look to sign the forward during the January transfer window.
Diaby appears to have surged up the Arsenal wishlist after Mikel Arteta’s men failed to strike a deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk.
Bayer Leverkusen yet to respond to Arsenal interest in Moussa Diaby
A deal was never going to be easy. According to a report from 90min this week, Xabi Alonso’s men want more than £88 million for the Frenchman.
And it seems that Arsenal are still waiting to find out where Leverkusen stand. Sheth has now provided an update on their pursuit of the winger. And the journalist suggested that the German outfit are biding their time before responding to the Premier League leaders.
“Arsenal have made initial contact with Bayer Leverkusen over Moussa Diaby. Our information is that the contact has not been reciprocated yet,” he told Sky Sports.
“Leverkusen have not come back to Arsenal about whether they want to do business. Leverkusen will be reluctant to do business mid-season.”
Arsenal may be quite relaxed about the situation when it comes to Diaby. Of course, further signings would be very welcome. And Diaby has been described as an ‘astonishing‘ talent with remarkable pace.
But the Gunners are flying right now. If they can stay lucky when it comes to injuries, they are likely to have enough to compete for the rest of the campaign.
They certainly do not need to panic buy. And thus, meeting Leverkusen’s reported demands for Diaby may not be something Arsenal want to do.
It does appear that they have other names on their radar, too. So if another target becomes more obtainable in the remaining days of the window, perhaps Arsenal will not hesitate to switch their focus.
