Arsenal transfer news: Moussa Diaby wanted after Raphinha decision

Arsenal are considering a move for Moussa Diaby after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to a report from Sky Germany.

The Gunners are still on the hunt for another forward in the January transfer window. For months, it almost appeared to be inevitable that Mudryk would fill that void. But obviously, he has now moved elsewhere.

They have wasted little time in switching their attention. Sport Italia reported at the weekend that Arsenal had made contact over a potential deal for Barcelona star Raphinha.

But he is not their only target. According to Sky Germany, they are also admirers of Bayer Leverkusen star Diaby.

It is noted that Raphinha wants to stay at Camp Nou. So Diaby has moved onto the radar. But he will not come cheap, with his contract still having well over two years left to run. His asking price was £55 million in the summer (Daily Express).

Diaby would have the potential to be a superb signing for the Gunners. He has eight goals and four assists this season. And he is someone who can play on either wing, as well as in a more central role behind the striker.

He boasts frightening pace and superb dribbling ability. So he would be a brilliant option for Mikel Arteta to have up his sleeve alongside the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

It has been suggested that he has ‘astonishing‘ ability. And FBRef lists the likes of Raheem Sterling, Mohamed Salah and Ferrán Torres as similar players to Diaby. Torres is another name reportedly on Arsenal’s wishlist this month.

It has been an underwhelming season so far for Leverkusen. So they will surely struggle to convince Diaby to stick around should Arsenal come calling.

It remains to be seen if the Gunners now make a move.
