Arsenal signing ‘unbelievable’ £60m star in January looks unrealistic

Journalist Dean Jones has suggested that Arsenal signing Douglas Luiz in the January transfer window is now looking unlikely – and it may not happen in the summer either.

Jones was speaking to Give Me Sport as the Gunners continue their preparations for what looks set to be a huge window in their pursuit of the Premier League title.

Douglas Luiz is absolutely flying under Unai Emery. In fact, the Brazilian has scored five goals in the Premier League this season – the same number of goals as Arsenal’s top goalscorer Eddie Nketiah.

Douglas Luiz may be too expensive for Arsenal

Fabrizio Romano reported on X recently that Douglas Luiz is Arsenal’s top target in the middle of the park for the January window.

However, Dean Jones has some concerning news for Arsenal supporters hoping to see the 25-year-old arrive at the Emirates. He believes that the asking price may prevent Mikel Arteta’s men from being able to make a move.

“I totally think that Douglas Luiz is a good replacement to consider for Thomas Partey, there’s no doubt about that. I just think it’s unrealistic in January and I’m not even sure it’s realistic in the summer, given the way that Aston Villa are building at the moment, and how well he’s playing,” he told Give Me Sport.

“I think that the valuation around him too, you’re looking at upwards of £60m, that’s pretty difficult to achieve. From what I understand Arsenal in January are looking for cheaper players.”

Gunners may be punished if they don’t act

Arsenal fans will fear what may happen if they do not manage to sign Luiz in January. There may well be rival interest in him given his form for the Villans so far this season.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Ben Jacobs has reported that Liverpool have had Douglas Luiz on their radar. Meanwhile, Trevor Sinclair suggested that Manchester City may be considering re-signing Luiz.

Aston Villa meanwhile, will not want to lose their star man. He has been ‘unbelievable‘ over the last couple of years. And he should be approaching his prime in the near future.

Arsenal have spent a lot of money in the last few seasons. They have made a number of brilliant signings. But that may restrict what they can do in the next few windows.

And with Jones suggesting that Luiz will cost over £60 million, Arsenal may have their work cut out if they are going to get a deal done.
