Arsenal have major trump card in race for Achraf Hakimi - TBR View
Arsenal could have a trump card in the form of Gabriel Martinelli when it comes to the race to sign Inter Milan star, Achraf Hakimi, this summer.
Hakimi is a wanted man around Europe. It follows on from his superb performances for Inter throughout the season. Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed recently that PSG are keen on the full-back.
Chelsea are also said to be in for Hakimi. Their fans suitably excited about the prospect of seeing him arrive at Stamford Bridge.
But Arsenal hold a long-term and vested interest in the former Borussia Dortmund man. Football.London claimed as recently as April that Hakimi was still on Edu and Arteta’s radar.
Reports from Italy are now suggesting Inter Milan are keen on Gabi Martinelli. So, could Arsenal now have their window to land Hakimi?
Could Arsenal use Martinelli to land Hakimi this summer?
This is the sort of suggestion which would seriously split the Arsenal fan base, you would assume. On one hand, the club needs a quality right-back with Hector Bellerin potentially going.
On the flip side, Martinelli is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in the Gunners squad. A decision to allow him to go, then, would surely not go down well.
But Martinelli, despite his injury problems, hasn’t played under Mikel Arteta as much as he’d like. And if Inter are serious, then there’s no harm in Arsenal asking about Hakimi as part of any deal.
Of course, Hakimi is probably worth more. Inter are said to value their man at over £60m. Martinelli’s value is lesser known, although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has tipped his teammate to become a ‘superstar’ in the future.
It will all come down to how Arteta views his squad. The Spaniard will know what’s this squad’s priorities are. Whether that be adding in defence, or having lots of attacking options.
But ahead of a summer where Arsenal are expected to be busy, it’s certainly worth pondering a Martinelli and Hakimi swap deal of sorts.
